FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most before someone books their first session.

Our office is located at 434 Chestnut Street, Mifflinburg, PA 17844.

Street parking is available nearby, as is a municipal parking lot around the corner on 5th Street. We generally recommend avoiding parking directly on Chestnut Street in front of the office, as cars have occasionally been sideswiped there. Most clients choose to park on a nearby side street or in the lot for peace of mind.

We offer both in-person and virtual sessions, depending on your needs and the type of work you’re looking for. Many of our clients travel to our Mifflinburg office for intensives, while others choose to meet virtually for ongoing therapy, coaching, or follow-up work.

We’ll help you determine what format makes the most sense based on your goals, schedule, and location.

In addition to in-person sessions, we offer secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual sessions that are simple and easy to use, with no downloads required. You’ll receive a private link before your session and can join from your phone, tablet, or computer.

Many clients find that online therapy is just as effective as in-person work, with the added comfort and convenience of being in your own space.

Yes, your call will be answered by a real person. Our phones are answered live Monday through Friday from 8 am to 8 pm ET, so you won’t have to navigate a complicated phone tree or wait days for a response.

If you reach out by email or message, one of our Client Coordinators will respond between 9 am and 5 pm ET.

The easiest way to get started is to call us at (570) 884-4662 or reach out through our contact form or email [email protected].

When you call, you’ll speak with one of our Client Coordinators who will take a few minutes to understand what’s bringing you in and help match you with the right therapist and service. From there, we’ll walk you through the next steps and scheduling options.

Our goal is to make this process feel clear, simple, and supportive from the very beginning.

Yes, and for certain services, it’s an important part of the process. For all our intensives and workshops, we require a 30-minute video consultation with Doug before scheduling. This allows us to understand your situation, answer your questions, and make sure the service you’re considering is truly the best fit.

Some workshops and intensives also include one or more brief screening assessments to help us tailor the experience and ensure the highest level of care. If it’s a strong fit, we’ll move forward with booking. If not, we’ll help guide you toward a better option, even if that means referring you to someone else.

Our goal is always to ensure that the work you invest in is aligned, effective, and worth your time and resources.

We are a private-pay, out-of-network practice. This allows us to focus fully on the work without being limited by insurance requirements, diagnoses, or session restrictions.

Many of the services we offer, especially intensives and longer sessions, are simply not covered by insurance. Our clients tend to value depth, expertise, and focused care, and are looking for meaningful, lasting change rather than a more limited, symptom-focused approach.

We’re always happy to talk through options with you so you can make an informed decision. Many clients also choose to use HSA or FSA funds if available.

We work best with individuals and couples who are ready for something to change, not just to talk about what’s happening, but to work on it actively.

Many of our clients are navigating high-conflict or disconnection in their relationship, recovering from a toxic or narcissistic relationship, or moving through a significant life transition. They are often thoughtful, motivated, and open to looking more deeply at what’s happening beneath the surface, and are seeking focused, high-impact work that leads to meaningful, lasting change.

Our clinical foundation is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT), both grounded in attachment science and among the most researched approaches to relationship repair. From there, we integrate a range of evidence-based models depending on what the work calls for:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Bowenian, Structural, Strategic, Narrative
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Experiential
  • Psychodynamic
  • Solution-Focused
  • Mindfulness-based approaches

Doug also holds a certification in Narcissistic Abuse Treatment (C-NATC), which shapes much of the individual work we do with clients recovering from those dynamics.

We don’t use a one-size-fits-all formula. The approach is always tailored to what you need and where you are in the process.

We run approximately 33 to 36 intensives per year and consider them one of the most effective formats we offer.

A 3-day intensive compresses roughly six months of weekly therapy into a focused, immersive experience. A 2-day intensive covers approximately three to four months of traditional work.

The structure includes guided sessions with built-in breaks, exercises, and assessments designed to go deeper than a standard weekly session allows. Clients travel from across the country and internationally for this work, and many describe it as a turning point in their relationship or recovery.

The clients who benefit most from this work are those who come in open, engaged, and willing to look at what’s happening beneath the surface, not just in others, but in themselves as well.

You don’t need to have everything figured out, but a willingness to be honest, curious, and actively involved in the process goes a long way. We’ll guide you through the work, but meaningful change happens when you’re ready to engage fully.

Not at all. You’re welcome to keep your shoes on, take them off, or get comfortable however you’d like. Some clients leave their shoes in the waiting area, while others settle in with their feet tucked under them or a blanket nearby.

We want you to feel as comfortable and at ease as possible. This is your space while you’re here.

We typically provide premium Kirkland Signature tissues from Costco and occasionally Kleenex if it’s on sale (also at Costco). That probably seems like a small detail, but we believe comfort matters.

Whether it’s having a box of premium tissues nearby, a cozy chair, or a space where you can fully be yourself, we want the environment here to feel supportive in every way.

We’ve both had dogs and love them, but currently, we’re a cat household. Cats tend to fit our lifestyle a bit better, especially with travel and busy schedules, though we do have one with special needs who still keeps us on our toes. That said, we’re big fans of both and always enjoy hearing about the animals that are part of our clients’ lives.

Rebuilding your life and becoming whole again starts here.

Whether you’re looking for a focused intensive, therapy, or another service, we’ll guide you toward the approach that aligns with your goals. Call or message today to get started.
